Recreational Programs
Parent & Tot Program: Ages 2 and 3
This is an introductory skating program for children that are 2 and 3 years of age who are accompanied by an adult 18 years of age or older. The accompanying adult must have competent skating abilities and must be able to assist the tot throughout the lesson. A Skate Canada coach will lead each 45 minute session using games, songs and toys.
Offered Fall and Winter only.
Preschool (CanSkate) Program: Ages 3-5
This program is the entry level for beginners who are 3-5 years of age. Children are placed into groups according to ability and taught by a Professional Coach and assisted by qualified CanSkate Program Assistants. The focus of this program is to make skating fun! Skating skills taught range from learning to stand and balance to going forwards and backwards.
FAQ: What is the difference between the Preschool (CanSkate) program and the CanSkate program? 
CanSkate Program: Ages 5-12
CanSkate is Skate Canada's flagship learn-to-skate program, designed for beginners of all ages. This program is beneficial to any skater with an interest in ice sports (figure skating, hockey, ringette). Participants earn badges while they learn fundamental skating skills. Skaters are placed in groups according to ability and taught by a professional coach and assisted by qualified CanSkate program assistants. When you sign up for CanSkate you will be in a program that focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development.

FAQ: What is the difference between the Community Learn to Skate Program and the CanSkate Program? 
Community Learn-To-Skate Program: Ages 5-15
Offered in cooperation with the cities of Kitchener and Waterloo, the focus of this program is to learn basic skating skills in a group setting while having fun. This program teaches the beginning skills of basic skating (forwards, backwards, gliding, and stopping). Skaters are placed in large groups according to their ability. This is an excellent program to enroll your child in to aid in their school skating curriculum or to learn to skate with their peers. Skaters receive ribbons as incentives.

Adult CanSkate Program: Ages 16+
A skating program for adults of all ages and levels. Skaters are taught according to ability and have lots of fun!
Recreational STARSkate
This program is designed for skaters who wish to continue to develop their skating skills in a group lesson setting. To register in this program, skaters must have passed their Stage 6 CanSkate badge or have been recommended to this program by a professional coach. Instruction is provided in stroking, free skating, skating skills, dance and interpretive. Independent learning encouraged. Privates lessons may be available – please contact the KWSC office if interested.
Enrichment Program
Skaters recomended into this program by their coach demonstrate natural skating abilities and are expected to progress quickly through the CanSkate program. The enrichment program offers the opportunity for skaters to be grouped with other identified young figure skaters in an accelerated learning environment.
Snowball Synchro
This is an introductory program designed to introduce the fundamental skills of synchronized (team) skating. Any skater who is currently working on their CanSkate 3 (three) badge or above or is registering in the Recreational STARskate Program is eligible to register for this program.
