Competitive
skaters are required to enroll in 3 fitness classes per week. Skaters
are obligated to participate in the KWSC fitness programs and will
be expected to maintain a certain fitness level.
Fitness testing for junior and senior competitive skaters
and full-time dancers is mandatory
and included in the base fee.
Junior
Competitive Development Program
Skaters in the Junior
Competitive Development Program must be registered to compete
in the Trillium STARSkate competitive stream or the WO Development
Team and must be recommended by their base coach and approved by
the Competitive Program Coordinator. This program includes
both on and off-ice components. Skaters are encouraged to
supplement their training with two other days of skating which include
fitness classes. Junior Competitive Development skaters are automatically
eligible for the Intermediate STAR program, regardless of test level.
Skaters should not have reached the age of 11 as of the preceding
July 1. The recommended ages for this program are 7 to 10
for girls and 7 to 11 for boys.
Junior Competitive Program
Skaters who register for the Junior Competitive
Core Program must have passed the Juvenile Singles Competitive Test
or higher and be approved for the program by the Competitive
Program Coordinator. Skaters must register for the 3 core days of
skating, including the core fitness classes. One or more electives
(on and off-ice) are also required.
The recommended ages for this program are
10 to 13/14 for girls and 10 to 15 for boys.
Senior Competitive Program
Skaters must have passed the Skate Canada Novice
Singles Competitive Test or higher.
New skaters who wish to register for this program
must have permission from the Competitive Program Coordinator.
Please consult with your base coach for the appropriate training
program and schedule.
These programs accommodate skaters training in the disciplines of
dance or freeskate pairs from the primary to international level.
