Volunteers Needed for 2009 HomeSense Skate Canada International

Numerous volunteer opportunities are available for both skaters and adult/non-skater volunteers for the 2009 HomeSense Skate Canada International competition on November 19 – 22, 2009 at the Kitchener Auditorium.


We are currently recruiting skaters from the Grand River region to serve as flower retrievers, flag bearers, medal bearers and flower bearers for the four days of the event. Specific freeskate and age levels for the different volunteer positions are required (see below).

  5. Fill in the information requested

Please register with Skate Canada by August 21, 2009. Please note that when you register you are committing to be available ALL four days of the event (day/evening). We will try to accommodate as many applicants as possible. However, confirmation of the scheduling will not be available until early November.

Who can apply: Open-call to skaters from the Grand River Region CLUBS.


On-Ice Opening Ceremonies: Need to be available Friday, Saturday and Sunday

Flag Bearers:

  • Age approximately 16 yrs or older
  • Minimum Novice competitive level
  • Male or female skaters accepted
  • Skaters are required to attend the on-ice rehearsal for opening and closing ceremonies. This will take place in November. Dates to be confirmed.


Medal Ceremonies: Medal Ceremonies - Saturday and Sunday.

Medal Bearers:

  • Age: 14 yrs and older
  • Senior Bronze and higher StarSkate level
  • Male or Female skaters accepted

Flower Bearers:

  • Age: 12 yrs and older
  • Senior Bronze and higher StarSkate level
  • Male or Female skaters accepted

Flag Bearers:

  • Age: approximately 16 yrs or older
  • Minimum Novice competitive level
  • Male or Female skaters accepted

During Competition:

Flower Retrievers: need to be available Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday

  • Age: 12 yrs and older
  • Junior Bronze and higher level
  • Male or Female skaters accepted

Adult volunteers are also needed for numerous tasks including security, catering, boutique/ticketing, music room, medical, transportation, etc. Further details are available on the volunteering area of the Skate Canada website.
