Recreational Programs

We offer recreational programs designed to teach fundamental skating skills to people of all ages interested in ice sports such as hockey, ringette, and figure skating, as well as those wanting to skate for fitness and enjoyment for life.

Most recreational programs are offered year-round at rinks located throughout the Waterloo Region. Sessions are organized into five terms which can be purchased separately:

  • Pre-Season (September)
  • Fall (October-December)
  • Winter (January-March)
  • Spring (April-June)
  • Summer (June-August)

The Skate Canada membership fee ($32.70) must be payed once per year, and covers the September 1 to August 31 period.

Note: Effective July 1, 2011, all recreational program participants must wear a CSA-approved HOCKEY helmet (no bicycle, skateboard or ski helmets).

Power Skating

Skating is the most fundamental skill required to play hockey or ringette. Our Twin City Hockey Skating School offers power skating programs throughout the year at various rinks in the Kitchener-Waterloo region.

Figure Skating

The Kitchener-Waterloo Skating Club is one of Canada's leading figure skating training centres. We offer singles, pairs, dance, and synchronized skating programs for beginners through to elite athletes. The introductory level for all figure skating programs is the STARSkate program, which typically begins after basic skating skills are mastered in the CanSkate program.

Skaters with the desire and abilities to participate in our competitive programs enjoy a world-class training facility with excellent professional coaches, a dedicated figure skating ice pad, an athletics centre, personal trainers, as well as dance and pilates studios.

Our coaches are registered professional coaching members of Skate Canada, and are trained/certified in the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).
