Passing of Mary Peters

Passing of Mary Peters

It is with regret that we share some sad news about KWSC skater and volunteer Mary Peters. Mary passed away peacefully with her family at her side at Innisfree House on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at the age of 75. Beloved wife of the late Del Peters (2016). Loving mother of Greg and his wife Samara and Sarah Mattingley and her husband Rob. Cherished Grandma of Nathan and Eric Peters and Alexis and Josh Mattingley. Dear sister of Margaret Sharp, Jo MacDonald (Malcolm) and Peter Sharp. Mary was an ice dancer and a volunteer with the KW Skating Club. She enjoyed traveling, camping, gardening and knitting.

Mary Peters began her skating career at the Rink in the Park in the Adult Learn to Skate program and soon progressed to Adult Learn to Dance. Later she became a teaching assistant on the Adult Learn to Skate Program. She passed the Senior Bronze Dance European Waltz.

Mary was a member of the Social Dance Program and Eistanzfest where she was famous for her lemon squares.

The Canfigure Club Competition was run by Mary and her husband Del for many years. She also assisted in test days and organized the PA’s for Canskate as well as PA training days.

Mary also volunteered at numerous international, sectional and local competitions working in operations as dressing room assistant and ice captain.

In 1997 the City of Waterloo presented Mary a recognition of service to the sport of skating and in 1998 at Kitchener Sports Association banquet she received the much deserved Volunteer Award.

Mary’s contribution to the KWSC is outstanding and she will be sorely missed by our KWSC family.

Marleigh began skating when she was two years old. Since then, she has been a passionate athlete who always wants to share her love of skating with new skaters. Marleigh takes pleasure in working with the coaches and helping younger skaters learn to skate.

When she’s not on the ice, Marleigh enjoys arts and crafts, reading, and participating in a variety of sports including dancing, biking, and swimming– she even competes in a triathlon every summer!
