Meet Susan Ritchie...

Susan Ritchie photoWhat is your skating/teaching philosophy:
Skating technique is a science, but training athletes is an art. You must understand the science and you must understand the skater. I believe it's important to be knowledgeable and current, but we must always remember we are building people as well as athletes.

Tell us about your skating career:
Won several Interclub Championships, qualifying for COSIC at multiple levels and numerous years in Free Skate and Dance; Gold Test Skater (Dance); Other Notable Competitive Sport Accomplishments: OCAA Fastball Silver and Bronze medals; Fastball Scholarship Recipient; CWOSSA Particpant (Qualified in Badminton and Basketball)

What are some of your other professional accomplishments?
Trained figure skaters at all levels (competitive singles, recreational and synchronized skating) for over 15 years
Coached at National Championship
Completed the Nation Championship Mentor Coach Program
Received numerous Ontario University Association Coach of the Year Awards
Coached three different Universities with teams winning 3 OUA gold medals, 2 silvers and a bronze
West Kingston Coach of the Year
Seneca College Coach of the Year Award and Coaching Student of the Year Award Recipient
Seneca College Coaching Techniques Graduate
KWSC Volunteer Coach Award Recipient
KWSC Marilyn Johnny Award Recipient
Trained power skaters for 10+ years including OHL level player

What are your coaching credentials?
I am currently Level Two Certified and have completed Level Three Theory and Technical. I am a graduate of the Figure Skating Coaching Techniques Program at Seneca College (two year program). I have been a full-time figure skating coach (recreational and competitive) for 15 years and have coached across Canada. I also teach synchronized and power skating.

Are you currently taking new students and if so at what level?
I am currently accepting students for all programs from Jr STAR to Sr Competitive. I am also available for Preschool and Canskate private lessons on Slice of Ice.

When you are not at the rink what are you doing?
I enjoy time with my husband and three girls and many sports including fastball, hockey, skiing and running.
