Meet Paul MacIntosh...

Paul MacIntosh photoWhat is your skating/teaching philosophy:
Teaching young people to plan, set goals and achieve.

Tell us about your skating career:
I was a 5-time National competitor up to and including senior dance. I earned my Gold Dance, Gold Free dance, Senior competitive Dance, Gold Interpretive dance and Gold Skills.

What are some of your other professional accomplishments?
I have taught over 20 national medalists, with competitors at 4 junior world championships, and 1 senior world championship. I coached the 2007 Junior world bronze medalists, Kaitlin Weaver and Andrew Poje which was particularly gratifying having taught Andrew from pre-school through to his first senior world championships. I coached 2010 Olympic and World Champions, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, for 7 years, training them up to their first international competition and first junior worlds. In 2001 I was honoured with the Skate Canada Competitive coach of the year award and in 2007 was a final five finalist for the Jack Donahue Coach of the year for all sport in Canada. I have been asked to sit on numerous Skate Canada and Western Ontario section committee--most recently the Long Term Athlete Development committee, providing guidance on the development of our sport.

What are your coaching credentials?
I am Level 3 certified; partial Level 4 and have been coaching for 25 years. I am a Recreation graduate of Seneca College in coaching techniques.

Are you currently taking new students and if so at what level?
Yes, competitive ice dancers at all levels.

When you are not at the rink what are you doing?
Usually camping or golfing.

Who is/are your favourite skater(s)?
Any and all that I have taught; outside of that Tracy Wilson/Marie Bowness and Rob McCall.
