Meet Patty Huschilt...

Patty Huschilt photoWhat is your skating/teaching philosophy:
I believe that my role is to foster a joy of skating in a positive environment. My goal is to pull the "star" out of every skater through good technique, fun and musicality. My hope is that, because of my influence, my students seek a lifelong participation in the sport of figure skating.

Tell us about your skating career:
In Hagersville, Ontario, I began as a singles skater who moved onto competitive Ice Dance Pairs. Later on, I competed in Synchronized Skating at the Junior Level. I also enjoyed competing in Interpretive Skating.

What are some of your other professional accomplishments?
I began as a recreational coach in 1986 and have coached recreational skaters from the Preschool level to Adult Learn-to-Skate and Ice Fitness. In 2003, I began coaching test skaters, specializing in skating skills, interpretive skating and dance. I am proud of the number of gold tests passed by my students: 6 in Gold Skating Skills, 5 in Gold Level Interpretive Skating, and 3 in Gold Dance. I have worked with the students of other coaches for their choreography and artistry. I have given ice dance seminars in Fergus Ontario. In 2004, I was selected Western Ontario Coach Volunteer of the Year. I take courses to remain current in the recent trends in figure skating; most recently I attended the 2010 National Coaches' Conference and the 2010 Skate Canada Annual Convention and General Meeting.

What are your coaching credentials?
NCCP Level II certified professional coach with Level III Theory and Technical Singles completed. I am also CanPowerSkate certified. I have a background in ballet and jazz. I am First Aid certified and CPR trained.
