What is your skating/teaching philosophy:
To provide an environment where the learning process is fun and enjoyable for my skaters. I want to encourage my students to make skating a part of their ongoing life activity.
Tell us about your skating career:
I competed at the Korean National Championships for 10 years in both singles and dance. I am a five-time national dance champion and two-time national singles champion. I competed at the ISU World championships in the dance event four times, and was part of the first team from my country to ever compete there.
What are some of your other professional accomplishments?
I have been the Korean delegate to the ISU congress since 1992, representing the views of small country partners. I was an international judge in singles and dance for over 4 years. I was the chairman of the figure skating technical committee for 4 years and a member for over 10 years where I provided interpreter services to ISU officials. I was the ISU technical delegate for the ISU 4 Continents Figure skating championships. I have organized all the ISU short track, speed skate and figure skating events in Korea for over 10 years. I was the Korean Skate National team head coach and team leader for 10 years including the 1998 Nagano Olympics.
What are your coaching credentials?
I have earned my NCCP Level 2 and am currently working on Level 3; I have been coaching 15 years in Canada and abroad.
Are you currently taking new students and if so at what level?
I am accepting students for singles instruction from recreational up to Junior competitive levels.
When you are not at the rink what are you doing?
I love to cook, I make furniture and translate the ISU update page to Korean and continue to provide skating information to the Korean federation and members.
