Meet Karen De Vito...

What is your skating/teaching philosophy:
My teaching philosophy is to give every skater the best experience possible in the sport of ice skating.

Tell us about your skating career:
I started skating when I was young and loved being on the ice from the very first moment. I focused my skating on passing tests and competing in numerous competitions. As I started University, the coaching side of skating caught my interest.

What are some of your other professional accomplishments?
I teach competitive, test and recreational levels of skating. I teach all ages of skaters. I was a coach for the University of Waterloo Varsity Figure Skating Team for several years. I was the Recreational Program Coordinator for the Preschool and Parent & Tot programs for 5 years.

What are your coaching credentials?
I am Level 2 certified in Singles. I have completed my Level 3 Technical and Theory.  I have 12 years of teaching experience at KWSC. I have an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree from Wilfrid Laurier University.

Are you currently taking new students and if so at what level?
I am taking on new students in the STAR programs.

When you are not at the rink what are you doing?
I am raising my children. I also love cooking, gardening, and being outdoors.

Who is/are your favourite skater(s)?
My favourite skaters to watch are Yu-Na Kim and Joannie Rochette.
